Define the term 'magnetic declination'.

Answer: The angle between the geographic meridian and the magnetic meridian at a place.

Solution

At any place the vertical plane containing the geographic north-south line is the geographic meridian, while the vertical plane containing the freely suspended magnet (compass needle) is the magnetic meridian.
Magnetic declination is the angle between these two meridians at that place.
