What is the effect on the threshold frequency and the stopping potential on increasing the frequency of the incident beam of light? Justify your answer.

Answer: Threshold frequency unchanged; stopping potential increases with frequency.

Solution

Threshold frequency: It is a property of the metal (it equals ) and therefore does not change when the frequency of the incident light is increased.
Stopping potential: Since , increasing the incident frequency raises , so the stopping potential increases linearly with frequency.
