Mention a large scale use of the phenomenon of reverse osmosis.

Answer: Desalination of sea water to obtain drinking water.

Solution

Reverse osmosis is used on a large scale for the desalination of sea water: pressure greater than the osmotic pressure is applied on the sea-water side, so pure water passes out through the semipermeable membrane.
