Define electrical conductivity and molar conductivity of a solution and write the units of molar conductivity.
Solution
Electrical conductivity (): the conductance of a solution of 1 cm length and 1 cm cross-section — i.e. the conductance of a unit cube of the solution; it is the reciprocal of resistivity. Units: S cm.
Molar conductivity (): the conductance of that volume of solution which contains one mole of the electrolyte, kept between two electrodes of unit area of cross-section a unit distance apart:
Units: S cm mol.
