The rate constant for the first order decomposition of HO is given by the equation:

Calculate E for this reaction, and the rate constant k if its half-life period is 200 minutes. (R = 8.314 J K mol)

Answer: E_a ≈ 191.5 kJ mol⁻¹; k = 0.693/200 ≈ 3.47 × 10⁻³ min⁻¹ (= 5.78 × 10⁻⁵ s⁻¹).

Solution

Comparing with the Arrhenius form :
