Given below are two statements: One is labelled as
Assertion A and the other is labelled as Reason R
Assertion A: The beam of electrons shows wave nature and exhibit interference and diffraction.
Reason R : Davisson Germer Experimentally verified the wave nature of electrons.
In the light of the above statements. Choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below:
Assertion A and the other is labelled as Reason R
Assertion A: The beam of electrons shows wave nature and exhibit interference and diffraction.
Reason R : Davisson Germer Experimentally verified the wave nature of electrons.
In the light of the above statements. Choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below:
- (A)A is correct but R is not correct
- (B)A is not correct but R is correct
- (C)Both A and R are correct but R is Not the correct explanation of A
- (D)Both A and R are correct and R is the correct explanation of A✓ Correct
Answer: (D)
Solution
Electrons, like all matter, carry a de Broglie wavelength , and this wave character shows up as interference and diffraction, so Assertion A is correct. The Davisson-Germer experiment scattered a beam of electrons from a nickel crystal and found diffraction maxima exactly where the wave picture predicts, giving the first direct evidence of electron waves, so Reason R is correct. It is precisely that experiment which established the diffraction asserted in A, so the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion. Both statements are true and R correctly explains A.
