The industrial activity held least responsible for global warming is :
  1. (A)manufacturing of cement
  2. (B)steel manufacturing
  3. (C)Electricity generation in thermal power plants.
  4. (D)Industrial production of urea✓ Correct

Answer: (D)

Solution

Each of these industries is judged by how much carbon dioxide it adds to the atmosphere. Cement manufacture liberates carbon dioxide when limestone is decomposed, steel making burns large quantities of coke, and thermal power stations release great amounts of carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuel. The industrial synthesis of urea, by contrast, consumes carbon dioxide as a raw material together with ammonia. The activity least responsible for global warming is the production of urea.
