Given below are two statements.

Statement I : Stannane is an example of a molecular hydride.
Statement II : Stannane is a planar molecule.
In the light of the above statement, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below :
  1. (A)Both Statement I and Statement II are true.
  2. (B)Both Statement I and Statement II are false.
  3. (C)Statement I is true but Statement II is false.✓ Correct
  4. (D)Statement I is false but Statement II is true.

Answer: (C)

Solution

Stannane () is indeed a molecular hydride formed by covalent bonding between Sn and H atoms. So Statement I is true.

However, has a tetrahedral geometry with hybridization, not planar. So Statement II is false.

Answer: (C) Statement I is true but Statement II is false.
