Using the prism formula at minimum deviation:

μ = \frac{s i n ( \frac{A + δ _{m}}{2} )}{s i n \frac{A}{2}}

. Given

μ = cot \frac{A}{2} = \frac{c o s \frac{A}{2}}{s i n \frac{A}{2}}

, we have

sin (\frac{A + δ _{m}}{2}) = cos \frac{A}{2} = sin (9 0^{\circ} - \frac{A}{2})

. This gives

\frac{A + δ _{m}}{2} = 9 0^{\circ} - \frac{A}{2}

, so

δ_{m} = 18 0^{\circ} - 2 A

. The answer is (A).
