Given below are two statements :

Statement-I : The reactance of an ac circuit is zero. It is possible that the circuit contains a capacitor and an inductor.
Statement-II : In ac circuit, the average power delivered by the source never becomes zero.

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below :
  1. (A)Both Statement I and Statement II are true.
  2. (B)Both Statement I and Statement II are false.
  3. (C)Statement I is true but Statement II is false.✓ Correct
  4. (D)Statement I is false but Statement II is true.

Answer: (C)

Solution

Statement I is true: Net reactance can be zero if (resonance condition), even though both inductor and capacitor are present. Statement II is false: Average power . When (purely reactive circuit), and , so average power becomes zero.
