Answer: A → II, B → IV, C → I, D → III
Solution
A magnetron is a cavity oscillator built to generate centimetre-wave radiation, and it is the standard microwave source. Infrared photons have energies of the order of molecular vibrational and rotational quanta, so warm matter radiates infrared through the vibration of its atoms and molecules. Gamma rays carry megaelectronvolt energies and arise from transitions between nuclear energy levels that follow radioactive decay of the nucleus. X-rays appear when a vacancy in an inner shell of a heavy atom is filled by an outer electron, the gap between inner shell levels being of the order of kiloelectronvolts. The matches are microwaves with the magnetron, infrared with the vibration of atoms and molecules, gamma rays with radioactive decay of the nucleus, and X-rays with inner shell electrons.
