(iv) 589.2 nm
Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
Answer: A → II, B → IV, C → III, D → I
Solution
The flame colour of an alkali metal salt comes from light emitted when the thermally excited valence electron falls back to its ground state, and each metal emits at its own characteristic wavelength. Lithium emits crimson light at nm, sodium golden yellow light at nm, rubidium red-violet light at nm and caesium blue light at nm. So LiCl goes with nm, NaCl with nm, RbCl with nm and CsCl with nm.
