Which of the following vitamin is helpful in delaying the blood clotting?
  1. (A)Vitamin B
  2. (B)Vitamin K
  3. (C)Vitamin E✓ Correct
  4. (D)Vitamin C

Answer: (C)

Solution

Vitamin K is the cofactor for the carboxylation of prothrombin and the other clotting factors in the liver, so it promotes coagulation rather than delaying it.
Vitamin E is a fat soluble antioxidant that inhibits platelet aggregation and interferes with the vitamin K dependent carboxylation step, so a large intake of it lengthens the clotting time.
The vitamin that helps in delaying blood clotting is vitamin E.
