Given below are two statements:
Statement I: A second's pendulum has a time period of 1 second.
Statement II: It takes precisely one second to move between the two extreme positions.
In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:
  1. (A)Both Statement I and Statement II are false
  2. (B)Statement I is false but Statement II is true✓ Correct
  3. (C)Statement I is true but Statement II is false
  4. (D)Both Statement I and Statement II are true

Answer: (B)

Solution

A second's pendulum is defined by a time period of s, one second for each half of its swing, so Statement I is false. Half a period takes the bob from one extreme position to the other, and half of s is s, so Statement II is true. Statement I is false but Statement II is true.
