Which of the following statements is not true about RNA?
  1. (A)It has always double stranded -helix structure✓ Correct
  2. (B)It is present in the nucleus of the cell
  3. (C)It controls the synthesis of protein
  4. (D)It usually does not replicate

Answer: (A)

Solution

RNA is a single-stranded nucleic acid; although it can fold and pair with itself in places, it does not adopt the permanent double-stranded -helix that characterises DNA. It is indeed found in the nucleus and cytoplasm, it directs protein synthesis, and ordinarily it does not replicate. The statement that is not true is that RNA always has a double-stranded -helix structure.
