Which one of the following ores is best concentrated by froth floatation method?
  1. (A)Siderite
  2. (B)Galena✓ Correct
  3. (C)Malachite
  4. (D)Magnetite

Answer: (B)

Solution

Froth flotation lets an oily froth pick up water-repellent sulphide particles, so it is the method of choice for sulphide ores. Of the four, galena is , a sulphide, and is concentrated this way. Siderite , malachite and magnetite are carbonate or oxide ores and are not suited to froth flotation, so galena is the right choice.
