Which one of the following reactions of Xenon compounds is not feasible ?
- (A)✓ Correct
- (B)
- (C)
- (D)
Answer: (A)
Solution
Xenon trioxide is itself a powerful oxidising agent, so it cannot be reduced by hydrogen fluoride back to ; the reaction therefore does not proceed and is the unfeasible one. The remaining changes are all known chemistry: and hydrolyse to give xenon, hydrogen fluoride and oxygen, and takes up rubidium fluoride to form the adduct.
