A body of m kg slides from rest along the curve of vertical circle from point A to B in friction less path. The velocity of the body at B is :
(given, R=14m,g=10m/s2 and 2=1.4 )
(A)19.8m/s
(B)21.9m/s✓ Correct
(C)16.7m/s
(D)10.6m/s
Answer: (B)
Solution
Point A is on the circular track at 45∘ from the topmost point (measured from the centre), and B is the lowest point of the circle. The body starts from rest at A. Height dropped from A to B:
h=R+Rcos45∘=R(1+cos45∘)
By the work–energy theorem (frictionless path), mgh=21mvB2:
vB2=2gR(1+cos45∘)
Using R=14 m, g=10 m/s2 and cos45∘=1/2=1/1.4≈0.714:
vB2=2(10)(14)(1.714)=480⟹vB≈21.9 m/s
