Solution

A colloid has a liquid dispersion medium when it is a sol (solid in liquid), an emulsion (liquid in liquid) or a foam (gas in liquid). Paints are solid pigment dispersed in a liquid, milk and hair cream are liquid-in-liquid emulsions, and froth and soap lather are gas dispersed in a liquid. The remaining systems have other media: gem stones are solid in solid, cheese is liquid in solid, smoke is solid in gas and insecticide sprays are liquid in gas. The number of colloidal systems with a liquid dispersion medium is 5.
