Solid fuel used in rocket is a mixture of and Al (in ratio ). The heat evolved ( kJ ) per gram of the mixture is ____ (Neatest integer)

Given :

Molar mass of and O are 56, 27 and 16 g respectively.

Answer: 4

Solution

The thermite reaction:

kJ/mol

Molar mass of = 2(56) + 3(16) = 160 g/mol
Molar mass of Al = 27 g/mol

Total mass of mixture (1:2 molar ratio) = 160 + 2(27) = 214 g

Heat evolved per gram = kJ/g
