Draw the structures of the following:
i) cis-dichloridotetracyanidochromate(III)
ii) pentaamminenitrito-N-cobalt(III)

Solution

(i) \textit{cis}-[Cr(CN)Cl]: octahedral Cr(III); the two Cl occupy adjacent (90°) vertices, the four CN the remaining four — drawn with Cl at two neighbouring corners of the octahedron.
(ii) [Co(NH)(NO)]: octahedral Co(III); five vertices carry NH and the sixth carries nitrite bonded through nitrogen (Co–NO).
