The molecule is an amino-bis(phenol) type ligand. A central tertiary nitrogen carries three arms: two ortho-hydroxybenzyl groups and one −CH2CH2−NEt2 arm. On coordination the two phenolic −OH groups lose their protons and bind as phenoxide oxygens, while both nitrogen atoms donate their lone pairs, the central amine nitrogen and the terminal −NEt2 nitrogen. That gives four separate donor atoms wrapping a single metal centre, two N and two O, so the ligand is tetradentate.
