For a reaction,
; identify dihydrogen as a limiting reagent in the following reaction mixtures.
  1. (A)14 g of of
  2. (B)28 g of of
  3. (C)56 g of of ✓ Correct
  4. (D)35 g of of

Answer: (C)

Solution

For every mole of nitrogen needs three of hydrogen. Taking g of gives mol and g of gives mol. Two moles of nitrogen would call for mol of hydrogen, but only mol are present, so hydrogen runs out first and is the limiting reagent. In the other mixtures hydrogen is in excess or nitrogen is the one that limits.
