A body is thrown vertically upwards. Which one of the following graphs correctly represent the velocity vs time?
(A)(see structure)✓ Correct
(B)(see structure)
(C)(see structure)
(D)(see structure)
Answer: (A)
Solution
Velocity is a vector. Taking upward as positive, a body thrown vertically up starts with velocity +v, slows at the constant rate −g, becomes zero at the top of the flight and then grows more and more negative as it falls back. Plotted against time this is a single straight line of constant negative slope that crosses the time axis from positive to negative values.
