Structure B
B
  1. (A)enantiomer
  2. (B)Identical molecules✓ Correct
  3. (C)Diastereomers
  4. (D)meso compound

Answer: (B)

Solution

Each drawing is a central carbon bearing , and two methyl groups, that is 2-bromo-2-chloropropane . Because the carbon carries two identical methyl substituents it is not a stereocentre, so the molecule is achiral and has no stereoisomers. The two pictures differ only in the way the same four groups are arranged on paper and therefore describe one and the same substance. The structures are identical molecules.
