Solution

Vanillin (4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde, ) has 3 oxygen atoms (the aldehyde O, the phenolic –OH oxygen, and the methoxy ether O).
Its system: the benzene ring contributes 3 C=C bonds (6 electrons), and the aldehyde group contributes 1 C=O bond (2 electrons), giving 4 bonds electrons.
