Solution

Filling

C_{1}

with the dielectric raises it to

C_{1} = 4 \times 5 = 20 μ F

. Along the upper path

C_{1}

and

C_{2}

carry the same charge in series, combining to

\frac{20 \times 5}{20 + 5} = 4 μ F

. This series pair is connected across the same points A and B as

C_{3}

, so it adds in parallel with

C_{3} = 5 μ F

, giving an effective capacitance of

4 + 5 = 9 μ F
