Given below are two statements:

Statement I: The Henry's law constant is constant with respect to variations in solution's concentration over the range for which the solutions is ideally dilute.
Statement II : does not differ for the same solute in different solvents.

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options.
  1. (A)Statement I is false but Statement II is true.
  2. (B)Statement I is true but Statement II is false.✓ Correct
  3. (C)Both Statement I and Statement II are true.
  4. (D)Both Statement I and Statement II are false.

Answer: (B)

Solution

Henry's law, , applies in the ideally dilute region, and within that range the constant is independent of the solute's mole fraction at a fixed temperature, so Statement I is true. However measures the interaction of a particular gas with a particular solvent, so for the same gas it changes when the solvent is changed; Statement II, which says is the same in different solvents, is false. Hence Statement I is true but Statement II is false.
