Which one of the following is NOT a copolymer?
  1. (A)Buna-S
  2. (B)Neoprene✓ Correct
  3. (C)PHBV
  4. (D)Butadiene-styrene

Answer: (B)

Solution

A copolymer is formed from two or more different monomers. Buna-S is a copolymer of 1,3-butadiene and styrene. PHBV (poly-3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) is a copolymer of 3-hydroxybutyric acid and 3-hydroxypentanoic acid. Butadiene-styrene is also a copolymer. Neoprene, however, is a homopolymer formed from the polymerization of a single monomer, chloroprene (2-chloro-1,3-butadiene).
