When p-n junction diode is forward biased
  1. (A)the depletion region is reduced and barrier height is increased
  2. (B)the depletion region is widened and barrier height is reduced
  3. (C)both the depletion region and barrier height reduced✓ Correct
  4. (D)both the depletion region and barrier height increased

Answer: (C)

Solution

Forward biasing a p-n junction applies a voltage that opposes the built-in field, lowering the potential barrier and letting more carriers cross. At the same time the majority carriers are pushed towards the junction, so the depletion region narrows. Both the depletion region and the barrier height are reduced.
