Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
List-I: A. Elastomeric polymer B. Fibre Polymer C. Thermosetting Polymer D. Thermoplastic Polymer
List-II: I. Urea formaldehyde resin II. Polystyrene III. Polyester IV. Neoprene
Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
- (A)A-II, B-III, C-I, D-IV
- (B)A-IV, B-III, C-I, D-II✓ Correct
- (C)A-IV, B-I, C-III, D-II
- (D)A-II, B-I, C-IV, D-III
Answer: (B)
Solution
An elastomer has weak intermolecular forces between its chains, which lets the material stretch and spring back, a property shown by neoprene. A fibre has strong intermolecular forces and close chain packing that give thread-forming strength, as in the polyester terylene. A thermosetting polymer hardens into a rigid, cross-linked network once heated and cannot be remoulded, which is the behaviour of ureaformaldehyde resin. A thermoplastic softens on heating and can be reshaped again and again, as in polystyrene. The elastomer is therefore neoprene, the fibre is polyester, the thermosetting polymer is ureaformaldehyde resin and the thermoplastic is polystyrene.
