Cyclohexylmethylamine reacts with benzoyl chloride under Schotten-Baumann conditions to give the amide N-(cyclohexylmethyl)benzamide as [A]. Lithium aluminium hydride then reduces the amide carbonyl to a methylene group, converting −NH−CO−C6H5 into −NH−CH2−C6H5. The final product [B] is the secondary amine C6H11CH2−NH−CH2C6H5, N-benzyl-1-cyclohexylmethanamine.
